You kids get off my Bronte!

To Lure 'Twilight' Fans, Classic Books Get Bold Looks

"Some of the redesigned jackets are clearly inspired by the “Twilight” series. HarperCollins released a cover for “Wuthering Heights” with a stark black background, a close-up of a red rose and an inscription that reads, “Bella & Edward’s favorite book.” (Critics sneered that it was a “Twilight” rip-off.)"

Now, Emily Bronte's right up there in the big leagues with ... Stephanie Meyer, FFS!?!?

In other reading news, last weekend I got a Nook Simple Touch with GlowLight. It was a birthday present from Dennis, only 4 months late. But who's complaining?

For years I've been reading public domain texts on my laptop by downloading and converting them into Word docs. But a laptop is both heavy and hot for bedtime reading and not in a good way. I did not want anything proprietary--epubs and pdfs are fine with me. Also I can't see myself spending much, if anything on ebooks, since I have scores of pre-1923 works still on my computer.

First thing read, because it was the first thing I grabbed: Henry James's The Wings of the Dove, which proved to be harder going prose-wise than The Ambassadors written a few years later. I like HJ, but alas Nook doesn't have a feature for Jamesian confusions.

Another Open Studio

Today, my neighborhood is holding its own Open Studios and foot traffic is sooo much better than it was for last month's SVOS. The new collaged bookmarks I worked on this week seem to be a popular small item and a few people really responded to the paintings and shadow boxes, so that felt great. I don't expect the work to speak to everyone, but it's such a pleasure when it happens.

I'd be even happier if the fibro myalgia wasn't acting up.

Open Studios

Updated at cayost with a couple quick photos from Open Studio. (I can't get a flickr photo to go behind a cut tag to save my life.) Not a lot of traffic today on Mother's Day, though I'm still glad I went ahead and did this, especially getting the work finished in the first place.

I didn't get any sleep the night before, so yesterday felt so long, I kept thinking it was Sunday and wondering if I should try to stay awake for Mad Men.

Oh, Tish, that's French...

I stumbled on the very evocative French word that describes a zen-like quality.

zénitude

You are The Hermit

Prudence, Caution, Deliberation.

The Hermit points to all things hidden, such as knowledge and inspiration, hidden enemies. The illumination is from within, and retirement from participation in current events.

The Hermit is a card of introspection, analysis and, well, virginity. You do not desire to socialize; the card indicates, instead, a desire for peace and solitude. You prefer to take the time to think, organize, ruminate, take stock. There may be feelings of frustration and discontent but these feelings eventually lead to enlightenment, illumination, clarity.

The Hermit represents a wise, inspirational person, friend, teacher, therapist. This a person who can shine a light on things that were previously mysterious and confusing.

What Tarot Card are You?
Take the Test to Find Out.

Virginity? Uh, no thanks, I don't really want it back.
